The Process

I began by litter picking along Bournemouth and Southbourne beach, collecting discarded plastic and waste to use for the sculpture, highlighting materials like plastic bottles that take up to 500 years to biodegrade. From this, I developed a large scale sculpture shaped as the number ‘0’, made entirely from beach waste. This was aimed to symbolise the ZWE logo as well as the zero tolerance to litering on UK beaches.

The Outcome

The sculpture draws attention to an issue the Zero Waste Europe movement had not yet spotlighted, whilst remaining true to their existing identity. A QR code paired with the installation links directly to the ZWE website, bridging the physical and digital while extending the campaign’s reach to younger generations.
